Mera Aas Padose

An arts-integrated journey of community, creativity, and expression

Welcome to the Project

Mera Aas Padose is an arts-integrated education initiative that recognizes children's everyday surroundings—home, school, and neighborhood—as rich sites of learning, identity, and expression. Conducted with students from BND Public School, a low-fee private primary school in Katwaria Sarai, South Delhi, the project engaged children in creatively documenting their lived experiences through drawing, model-making, and performance.

Moving beyond conventional academics, the project emphasized student voice, cultural pride, and community connection. Children illustrated their dreams, daily routines, and memories of festivals and village life. These illustrations became the foundation for three-dimensional models representing personal and collective spaces.

In its final phase, the project culminated in a collaboratively written and performed drama, developed through storytelling and improvisation, and presented at a vibrant community event—the School Mela. The entire process fostered new relationships between students, teachers, and their environments, demonstrating the transformative power of the arts in education.

This project was supported by India Foundation for the Arts (IFA) under its Arts Education programme. The grant enabled the Dehat Uthan and Cultural Society to explore how creative pedagogies can deepen student engagement and encourage more inclusive, expressive classroom spaces.
